Maple Cypress Post Office—According to an article in the 21 June 1883 issue of the New Bern Weekly Journal, “Our post-office, Maple Cypress, derives its name from a maple growing in a cypress stump at or near the [Neuse] river, but they have not escaped the ravages of time, for there is not a trace of either left to be seen.”
